Jim Hopper, Ph.D., is clinical psychologist and Research Fellow in Psychiatry at McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School . For 18 years Jim has been working clinically and conducting research with men who have experienced child abuse, including sexual abuse. He has studied how masculine gender socialization shapes the experience and expression of emotions, including emotional effects of child abuse and sexual assault; the unique characteristics of memories of psychologically traumatic experiences and how these can be transformed by psychological treatment; the biological bases of emotion regulation problems in people with histories of interpersonal assault and PTSD; and the ways that people use alcohol and drugs to deal with memories of assault, PTSD symptoms and emotions they find difficult to tolerate and regulate.

Dr. David Lisak, associate professor of psychology at the University of Massachusetts , Boston where he conducts and supervises research on the causes and consequences of violence.  In particular, he has studied the motives and characteristics of "undetected" rapists men who rape but who are never prosecuted.  He also studies the long-term effects of childhood abuse in adult men, and the relationship between early abuse and the later perpetration of interpersonal violence.  His research has been published in leading journals in psychology, trauma and violence, and he was the founding editor of the journal, Psychology of Men and Masculinity.  In addition to his research and teaching, Dr. Lisak serves as faculty for the National Judicial Education Program, and the American Prosecutors Research Institute, and has served as a consultant to judicial, prosecutor and law enforcement education programs across the country.  He has conducted workshops in more than thirty states across the U. S. , and consults widely with universities, the U. S. Military, and other institutions regarding sexual assault prevention and policies.  Dr. Lisak consults widely with law enforcement and prosecutors on rape cases, and also serves as an expert witness and consultant in sexual violence and homicide cases across the country.

Curtis St. John, President Elect, MaleSurvivor: NOMSV-Curtis St. John was sexually abused at the age of ten by a close family friend. He has since recovered from his trauma and says he is the happiest person he knows.  He now works to help other male survivors and their families understand the negative patterns sexual abuse causes in adult life by actively encouraging victims to face their fears and problems and to advocate for public understanding and acceptance.  He is President Elect, and next Chairman of the Board of Directors of MaleSurvior: National Organization against Male Sexual Victimization, St. John is a member of the Dutchess County Sex Offender Management Project, one of eleven counties in the nation awarded a grant from the US Office of Justice Programs to study sex offender management systems. He has been a speaker at The Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program (SAVI) at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, The NYPD Special Victim Division's Sex Crimes Intervention Course, and has appeared on national syndicated radio programs, and serves on the Task Force Committee for the Violence against Women Grant award to Purchase College, where he is employed as Director of Operations for the Conservatory of Music.
"Many men suffer from post traumatic stress issues and isolate themselves from the rest of the world." St. John says.  "These men do not connect their abuse with their adult challenges of depression and alcohol issues. We need to show those who suffer in silence that they are not alone and there are so many others like them out there.  Those who can speak need to speak for those who cannot My ultimate goal is to bring the healing of these men out of the shadows where they have been stigmatized into silence."
